So add this site to your top Sewing and Crafts sites……..drum roll please……..

So when I searched this time I went into the advanced search and clicked on Date and added to my search that I wanted only in the past month. It’s not an exact sience but it does help trim some of the older links out that I may have already looked at.

and if you want to search where I left off here’s the link

Our area , unfortunately, has a high rate of teenage pregnancies. I have recently heard of two young gals that are now pregnant. So wanting to show them some love I began looking for websites with baby and maternity patterns.

www.make-baby-stuff.com

www.thebabywearer.com

www.handmade-adelaide-baby.com

If I can get some of my gals from our youth group sewing, We could get a nice package of a bag, burp cloth, diaper pad, and a few other things to top off the gift. The greatest gift would be for them to know Jesus.

We’ll see what the Lord will do.

Happy Sewing.

I found a “Spring Train” that takes you to a bunch of blog sites that are giving out free digital scrapbooking kits, elements, frames, ect.. Here’s the “train station” Preciousconvoy You can find all the links there.

Some of the sites are not in English but if you look for underlined links near the pictures you’ll find the download that your looking for.

If you have Firefox and add the plugin Clueviewer it will let you see what the link leads to. I can see a little icon of a zip file when I hover over a zip link with my mouse. Or if I click on the little magnafying glass it will show me a small preview of the website. Pretty neat little plugin.

Enjoy the Ride!

I finally found our humming bird feeder and now I’m ready to put it up with the butterfly feeder. I found some milk weed (at least I think it is) in the empty lot next door and I plan to dig it up and put it in our garden. I have some great links for butterfly kits and homeschool links. Some time when we go back to the states I want to order a butterfly kit. I think it would be really neat for us as a family to watch butterflies hatch. Here are some fun links for adding butterflies to homeschooling…..

PS: as many know, the butterfly is a great way to show our new life in Christ.

Lapbooking 101 has loads of links for butterflies. I have yet to look at them all.

Homeschool helper online has a nice lapbook for butterflies.

Homeschool share really goes into a lot of detail on the life of the butterfly in lapbook form. Even adds math and poems.

Earthsbirthday is where you get neat butterfly kits and information.

As I sit here typing my little one is eatting cereal on my lap. The mouse is far out of reach. It is our game that if I don’t move the mouse he gets it. Then with a very big grin waves it around at me. Now, he’s trying to feed me his cereal.

What does this have to do with Digital Magazines? Well, not much. It’s just that I was looking at my new Digital Woman’s Day Magazine. In English! With the kiddo on my lap. These Magazines cost around the equivalent of $5-7.oo USA dollars around here, that is if you can find one.

How or why I got on to the Barns & Noble website I can no longer remember. What I ended up doing was browsing many of the digital magazine and found Woman’s Day Magazine digitalized for $8.00 USA dollars for a YEAR subscription!!

I checked it out today and found you can print out pages you want like recipes. It can be downloaded to your computer to view whenever. and it has a nice zoom to read the print clearly. It also has links in the magazine that will open up a browser window for you. You can also totally avoid Magazine pile up this way too.

I would like you to be aware that Barnes & Noble has quite a few not so noble magazines. I found if I looked by topic that I avoided the magazines I really didn’t want to see. There are plenty of fun ones to choose from. Some are only one issue.

I do know that it really is more fun having the magazine in your hand but if it’s just not something that is going to happen this is better than nothing. I also found that many of the recipes are with ingredients I can actually find or easily substitute! Anyway I hope you find this useful.I think I’ll just go read a few more pages…

Hey I just found out that if you go to www.zinio.com that you can look at all their digital magazines and it has a safe mode to avoid unwanted content. I like that better than Barnes & Noble and they have the same magazines. Maybe even more I’m not sure.

Have you ever gone back to look at bookmarks from years past hoping that the one item your looking for is still there? Only to find a 404 file not found error or the other page not found. I have since learned that if it is something I really want to keep I need to save it. The best way I have found to save a webpage of info is to use a free program called PrimoPDF. (works for XP and Vista)

After this program is installed you just click on print and then select PrimoPDF as your printer. there are several settings that allow you to choose the size of your file and there is one more setting under options that will allow you to apend a file to an existing one This works great if you want to combine more than one page to one PDF. I really like this for Vista since I can easily see thumbnails of PDF files. So it makes them easy to see and file. Also It puts the webpage at the top so you can always go back to the original webpage. I don’t save all my links this way but I do save the ones that I really want to keep for a long time. I find that selecting and printing selection works and other times it doesn’t. Sometimes you have to either print the whole thing or print selection. It doesn’t take long to find out which works for you.

Many sites don’t mind you saving info for your personal information but just be considerate of copyrights.

Often for Missionaries the holidays can be quite interesting. You try to find the right ingredients for your favorite dish, or you look for the right kind of decorations and if you don’t find it you substitute often mixing cultures to create your families version of the holiday. As I look for links and ideas I often see recipies or instructions that include hard to find items like special glues, fabrics or ingredients. I’ve found some links with ideas that either as is or with a bit of substitution could be fun.

Paper Roses

http://dozidesign.blogspot.com/2008/05/paper-flower-tutorial.htmlThe same roses with felt. (she uses wool, but I bet regular felt would work) http://blog.betzwhite.com/2008/08/little-this-and-that.html

Ideas to use the roses with instructions… http://blog.betzwhite.com/2008/10/pomander-tutorial.html

Heart Scarf with two ways to make it. (For those in cooler areas) http://blog.betzwhite.com/2009/01/have-heart.html(There are other cute ideas here too)

I like this way of making it… http://dyeabolical.wordpress.com/2009/02/03/martha_made_us_do_it/

This Felted Brooch Tutorial would be fun to do with kids. Also I’d just try it with felt.

Handmade Heart Doilies is a version of making paper snowflakes but instead you make cute hearts.

Tissue Paper Flowers

Paper Flowers with vase This video shows the kids getting involved in the fun. I also like this site for a Tissue Paper Vase .

Paper Flowers From How Cast. This is such a fun site. Even if you don’t do the flowers check out the other videos. Hey I just learned how to debone a chicken! Also it has a print function where you can print out the instructions. I like to save them to a PDF and file them.

Family Fun Suggests to glue a chocolate kiss in the middle of the flower.
Recipes

Hershey’s Cocoa If you go to this Hershey site and select advanced search you will find some good recipes under Hershey Cocoa (and Valentines as holiday to get more specific). I know in some places chocolate chips are hard to find but usually you can find Cocoa.

Family Fun has some good recipes but I won’t promise that you can find all the ingredients.

Salt Dough 1cup flour, 1 cup salt and enough water to make a dough. Bake in oven 200 deg. F till hard.

Use Salt Dough to make cute heart jewelery or other decorations. Family Fun uses Filmo but I have yet to find it. There are good microwave directions at this site www.allfreecrafts.com .

Bread and Glue Clay is my most favorite clays because you can make fairly delicate things with it. I like to make flowers. This is great clay for valentines as you can use it for jewelry, candle holders…ect. I once made a small vine with flowers and wrapped it around a long stemed glass and put a votive candle in it for my Mom as a present. Amazing Moms has a good recipe for it. Don’t use the bread crust.

For the Girls Candy Necklaces

As I surfed to find Interesting Valentines ideas I came away with the fact that I can probably come up with the best ideas on my own. I just need to talk to my hubby and see what he thinks and toss in some extra surprises that I know he will like. My main interest is to spend time with my husband and kids and let them know in one more way that I love them so very much and yet God loves them even more.

I was diligently working on the Sewing Fun Part 2 when I became severely side tracked! I came across a site to make Wrapper Purses. These purses are made by all kinds of stuff like magazines, candy wrappers, wrapping paper and any other kind of paper and plastic you might think of. As a kid I had been part of creating a gum wrapping chain. Our great dream was to beat the world record. Well, as interest changed we never did make it. Years later while hanging out at the beach a vendor walked by with a arm load of purses and it’s then I saw the purse. This was a chip wrapper purse and I bought it on the spot. Since then I had looked up info on the internet and saved it for a rainy day. Some how the link was tagged as sewing. So in my sewing search I started looking at links for this fun purse. And boy did I find them. So many in fact I thought I should just create a post for just them. Here are the links and the last one is a really full of Great helps.

http://candywrapperpurse.blogspot.com/2007/08/chip-wrapper-purse.html

http://www.gumwrapper.com/build.htmhttp://nannybird.blogspot.com/2007/12/come-and-vote.html

http://nannybird.blogspot.com/2008/01/flat-bottom-candy-wrapper-purse.html

http://candywrappercrafts.blogspot.com/

happy wrapping!

PS: this is certainly something fun to do with the kids too!
